What's the future...
There is so much chatter around AI, it's becoming a carcophony of noise. What will it be, how will it change us, how will it change the workplace, our jobs, our future. What's the future of photography?
This is a big worry for me, still building my brand what if I'm building something that has no longevity at all? Will you still need me tomorrow?
Well the way I see it is we all need connection, community and person to person contact to create the best things. Yes you can create Ai images of yourself but if you're not creative or have a creative eye, how will you know if they're good or not? How will artificial intelligence help you define a creative truth?
I'm an artist at heart in everything I do. I know this for one very clear reason, in a lot of aspects of my life I can be indecisive, it's a bit of a family joke, not something I'm proud of but when it comes to anything creative I have zero hesitation in knowing what is right, what looks right, what aesthetic to use , angles, composition, lighting, clothing. If you rely on AI to tell you what looks good, how can you trust that?
There's so much more to a photo than press and click. When phones became so widespread there was a worry for the loss of appeal for real photographers but it's actually pushed us to deepen our creativity, the more tools than come up the further we can take our craft. Like the development of underwater photography, how Lightroom just transformed editing, simplifying and creating so much flow. It doesn't diminish the person, the creator, it enhances by giving more tools to use.
I think Ai is going to change the way we work perhaps, but I don't think it will eliminate the artist because otherwise it's going to become weirdly generic I think. It makes me think of the Abba Experience I went to this year. It was something I'd never experienced, the artistry was amazing the people however had a weird edge to them that my brain couldn't come to terms with. I spent a lot of the concert with my cousin trying to work it out and later after speaking to a friend was reminded of the link between the vagus nerve and our vision. If there is a discrepancy the brain can't process the information, flags it up as being unusual and gives you funny feeling, a little indescribable but a sense that something is off, as it was, they weren't human faces, they were Ai.
I do feel this will be visible when someone uses Ai for personal branding images also. Number one, they won't be authentic which I believe will damage credibility, and in time just become boring. who wants to see artificial imagery all the time? I know I don't. I want authenticity.
Secondly, if you've tried to create something artistic using Ai you'll see that it may be able to create anything you want, perhaps electronically better but it can't create the vision in your head. I've tried, and it's laughably off a number of times, even with extremely detailed prompts. I get it we are at the beginning of this but I really hope that real time connections with humans, supporting each other through business will overcome cheap or free alternatives that look fake and will be so generic.
So.....on that note. I'm offering mini branding shoots for those that would like a sample of what we can create, authentically and if you're ready to jump into a full personal branding shoot in Dorset this summer please get in touch and I'd love to help.
:) Ella
